How to Get the Fin Dorsal Companion
Wait a minute, what? Fin has been duplicated! Wait, no, the left one is mine. You see, Fin Dorsal is available as a companion. And, chances are, if you've made it very far into the storyline, he can be yours, too. Here's how!
You need to complete the three quests involving Fin. You fight him once in each quest, so it's pretty clear which ones these are.
First, you'll fight him inside the tunnels of Skull Cave. Not too difficult here, and you're getting your first taste of Cutthroats, and your long journey with Fin Dorsal.
As you progress to Jonah Town, and further into Gullet, you'll begin making deals with the Frogfather. During this time, you'll run into Fin again for your second fight, which is slightly more difficult than the first.
In your third and final fight with Fin, which is fairly late into the storyline, you're preparing to recover the first piece of Marco Pollo's map. Here, he's preparing to sell it to the Armada. In this difficult fight, you'll be up against Fin, his pirates, and some Armada clockworks!
Fighting Fin can be worthwhile - just look at this new weapon I won! It has almost double the power of my previous weapon!
Now, there is a catch - you're going to need 12500 crowns! You see, after finishing the quests and equipping the badge, Fin Dorsal shows up as an available companion to purchase in the Crown Shop. If you log out and back in, you may need to unequip and reequip the badge to make him show up.
As with all companions in the Crown Shop, you'll receive him as whatever level you are at the time. I was level 51 when I purchased him, so here were his statistics.
As you can see, he's not a bad companion to begin with. He has Strong, Pirate, Armored, Blade Storm, and Repel Borders.
Despite his impressive appearance, and rarity at this point, he doesn't quite meet up to the standards of his competition, despite being my highest leveled companion. Here's where I put him among my ranks.
Playing around with this new companion was a lot of fun. He works just like the enemy Fin. He can get critical attacks, too, as seen here in this photo with a Sky Dragon.
As with any companion you purchase or obtain from the Crown Shop, he does not show up in a Tavern, so he cannot be promoted. However, at the end of the day, who doesn't love a tall shark with razor-sharp blades that's tried to "defeat" them three times following them around? I know that I'm sold - in beta, at least.
When the game goes live, I recommend KI sell companions for something like $5 a piece (2500 crowns). Or maybe, just maybe, it'll be a gift for beta testers. Who knows?
What do you think - is this a companion that you need?
Thanks for reading, and see you in the Spiral!
