Liebster Award Q&A

Despite its name, the Liebster Award isn't really an award. It's something you nominate your fellow bloggers for, to encourage people to look at new and different sites. I was recently tagged, and here are ten answers to the ten questions I was asked!

I was tagged by Ian over at WatchHallow.com (click to view). Many of you are familiar with Wizards Unite, which Ian ran previously, and WatchHallow is his new, multi-game blog, which covers Wizard101, Pirate101, Crowfall, and several other favorite games of his. Give it a look!

#1 What's your personal favorite blog post you've ever written, why?

This is a very tough question for me. I love several different types of posts, but the one I so often go back to is True Origins of Astral Magic (HERE), because not only is it a pretty solid theory based on evidence Jesse Scoble (King Artorius) gave, versus some of my other theorycrafting which I had lots of fun with, but can be a stretch, but it's also profound for the Wizard101 story, because most all wizards progressed under the impression that Astral Magic came exclusively from Celestians. Many wizards still believe that.

#2 You can only eat from one restaurant for the rest of your life, what do you choose?

It's unusual for me to be answering non-game-related questions, but here we go. I think the best option in this case is a chain restaurant called Granite City. They've got a great Sunday buffet which I've had many times, as well as an extensive menu. I'm sure I could find something for all meals of the day there.

#3 What do you wish people understood more about blogging/bloggers/content creators?

This might be a pretty universal answer to this question, but I would say a couple of things. First and foremost, how much work it takes. If you've never done art, or run a blog, or managed contests, or whatever else, you simply don't know the level of dedication it takes. Second, I wish people understood that the "tabloid" style posts are not the only good one out there, and the emphasis shouldn't be placed on them alone. Just as you're not afraid to study someone's beautiful artwork, don't be afraid to read someone's long blog post.

I used to be one of the people who thought I knew it all about Wizard and Pirate. Then I'd read a long post and learn something new. So, ever since, I kept reading. I've had many an expert in a particular field ask me a question which is answered clearly in a blog post. One of the reasons I started blogging is because I wanted information to be more readily available to people. I'd have found an answer and everyone was still looking for it. I decided this was a new way in which I could share. Turns out that even my own blog, while it's lots of fun for me, won't solve the problem. People have to be interested. They have to have the will to get up and go outside their normal range of website (which I guess doesn't require getting up at all) and read new blogs. They might learn something.

#4 What type of milk are you?

I am definitely confused by this question, particularly in relating myself to the characteristic of a particular milk. I don't drink near as much milk as I should, but I prefer my 2%. And, according to Buzzfeed's equally strange "What Kind of Milk Are You?" quiz:

You're two percent milk. You're such a classic, universally loved milk. Most people like you, even prefer you. Stay milky.

We'll go with that. Ha!

#5 Would you rather - Never eat cheese again OR only be able to speak Shakespeare quotes for the rest of your life?

Never eat cheese for sure. I love my dairy as much as the next guy, but I'd prefer that modern people understand what I'm saying. Besides, Shakespeare's writing was actually somewhat inept for his time period. Not only that, but what if the universe knows that Shakespeare did indeed steal some of his work from others? Then those quotes are out, too. I'll stick with no cheese, thanks.

#6 What was the first video game you ever played?

Oh man. It would have to be some of the classics. I had an old joystick controller for Pac Man, Galaga, Frogger, and some racing game that I don't recall the name of. For as simple of games as they were, they were amazingly entertaining.

#7 Name someone who inspires you, anybody.

I'm not really one for celebrities (but who didn't jump up and down a little bit when J. Todd Coleman started following more and more KingsIsle gamers?), but I've always been intrigued by and followed the work of Nelson Mandela.

#8 In 3 words or less; explain why you do what you do.

Because it's fun.

#9 You've been hired to be a community manager for your favorite game, what's the first thing you do?

You asked me this one on purpose, didn't you? If it were Crowfall, I'd probably familiarize myself with the fansites out there, as I've not yet spent much time doing so. 

As for Wizard and Pirate, the very first thing would be to streamline game feedback so that can be more effectively communicated to developers. I'd start offering peeks of what's to come given the current lack of content, and I'd restructure the fansite system, wipe the slate clean, and begin the process over again. Chances are, it'd end up very similar to the current setup. You can fill in the blanks.
