Darkmoor and Malistaire the Undying in the Graveyard are, to this day, still hot spots to farm. Darkmoor gear has been a staple in every setup since it was released at level 100. Like Waterworks gear, it will likely be important for many years to come. Here's a look at the gear you can get from Darkmoor.
Gear Appearance
There are three "tiers" of gear - tier 1 is the best gear, tier 2 is the second best, and tier 3 is the third best. The three tiers of gear dropped in Darkmoor all have different looks. Tier 1 looks like Malistaire's gear, tier 2 looks like Shane von Shane's gear, and tier 3 is armor that looks like an Avalon gear set. Each tier also has a unique weapon. Check them all out below!

Malistaire the Undying
Although gear is dropped throughout the different dungeons of Darkmoor, the Graveyard is the most popular place to farm, as Malistaire drops the top tier of items. To access Darkmoor, take the portal at the back of Nightside.

Why They Matter
For awhile now, particularly a month or two ago, I've been focusing on significant gear throughout the game, including its popularity, impact, and how it fits into setups compared to other gear. The series has been on a bit of a hiatus as I've been working on obtaining missing gear pieces, but I'm nearing completion and there'll be a few more of these popping up, likely this month.
Darkmoor gear has been and still is a huge staple. Because completing Darkmoor is required to get the all-important shadow spell for your school, just about everyone has a chance to get acquainted with it and farm for at least a few pieces of gear. Like Waterworks, this gear has been the best available set for some time after its release. Even now, some of the items are still the best available, and certainly some of the more well-balanced gear options.
Seven years ago, I wrote a post on why we didn't need (or want) level 90 Waterworks-style gear. It killed gear diversity. Nowadays, we have some sets which are generally stronger and more popular, but we are seeing greater variety in exactly which pieces people are using. As nice as it is for some people to have a clearly defined best set, gear choices and different setups are part of what make the game interesting. Darkmoor gear was and is a big deal, but I hope we don't see too many more sets like it in the future.
